Mr. Matthews advises the Stanwood Group as a Board of Advisor Member and also separately provides services to Stanwood Group clients under independent engagement. Before joining Drumm Law in 2017, Dan spent six years as a franchise and securities attorney regulator for Washington State.
Dan’s legal practice is focused on franchise, securities, and tax law. His background as a regulator helps him navigate compliance and regulatory matters, giving a competitive edge to his clients. He has served on several multi-state project groups where he took a leadership role in drafting franchise and securities policies. Prior to his time as an examiner, Dan worked in private legal practice crafting tax strategies. Dan has also worked on a fixed-income securities trade desk for a team that managed $8 billion.
Dan attended law school at BYU in Provo, Utah, where he frequently had to choose between studying and hitting the slopes at world-class ski resorts. During law school he served as Executive Editor of the BYU Law Review. He also earned a degree in Economics from BYU. Dan earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter in 2015.

Joseph Maenner, Esquire

Mr. Maenner advises the Stanwood Group as a Board of Advisor Member and also separately provides services to Stanwood Group clients under independent engagement. Mr. Maenner graduated from the Dickinson School of Law (now part of the Pennsylvania State University) in 1996 and began actively practicing intellectual property law in 1998. His client base has ranged from Fortune 500 companies, to large research universities, to small, privately held companies, to independent inventors.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Maenner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University in 1986. He had a seven-year career as an engineer, working for the U.S. Department of Defense at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, located in Philadelphia, PA. His practical engineering experience has been an invaluable tool in assisting his clients through the years in refining their inventions.
Some examples of the technologies in which Mr. Maenner has drafted patent applications are pump action water guns, remote-controlled vehicles, automotive fuel injectors, polymer optical devices, hemodialysis catheters and other implantable medical devices, rechargeable lithium-ion battery chemistry, computer software, piezoelectric oscillators, respiratory devices, and neuropathy diagnostic tools.
Additionally, Mr. Maenner has significant experience in counseling clients in the selection and use of trademarks and in obtaining federal trademark registrations. While in law school, he served as an intern in the U.S. Trademark Office. He has also obtained copyright registrations for artistic designs and three-dimensional articles. Mr. Maenner frequently provides seminars on intellectual property to local university and high school students and has conducted CLE courses on intellectual property for local bar associations.
Mr. Maenner is also an adjunct professor at Lehigh University, teaching a class in Intellectual Property Law for a graduate program in Technical Entrepreneurship. Mr. Maenner is a member of the bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as well as the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Steinberg is Of Counsel to Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, PC in Southfield, Michigan, where he is co-chair of the firm's franchise law section. He is an expert in the field of franchise law, having served as general counsel of a publicly held franchise company and advisor to numerous national franchisors and franchisees throughout North America. Since 1993, Mr. Steinberg has served as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association adjudicating numerous complex commercial, intellectual property, licensing, franchising, commercial, non-competition and employment related disputes.
Mr. Steinberg is certified as a Certified Franchise Executive (CFE), through the International Franchise Association. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Anti-trust Section, as well as the ABA Forum Committee on Franchising. He has served as a member of the Government Relations and Legal Counsel Committees of the Direct Sales Association in Washington, D.C. and has served as a member of the Franchise Relations Committee of the International Franchise Association. From 2016-2017 Mr. Steinberg served as Chairman of the Antitrust, Franchise and Trade Regulation Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He was named by D Business Magazine as Metro Detroit's Top Franchise Lawyer from 2010-2020 and a "Legal Eagle" by Franchise Times.
David L. Steinberg graduated from the University of Michigan in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Communications and earned his Juris Doctor Law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1980 where he served as Article and Book Review Editor of the Law Review. In 1982, Mr. Steinberg obtained his Masters degree (LLM) in International Trade Regulation from the Georgetown University Law School. He was admitted to practice law in the States of Michigan in 1980 and California in 1987.
Mr. Steinberg also served as a Director, Farmington/Farmington Hills Chamber of Commerce (2005 - 2008); Board Member, President and Capital Development Committee Chair, Farmington/Farmington Hills Community Foundation for Youth and Families (2004-2010); Board Member, Foundation for Youth and Excellence for Walled Lake Schools (Feb. 2011 to 2018); and Board Member, University of Michigan Student Board of Publications (March 2011 to 2014).
